Richard Levine, professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, has been appointed editor of the Journal of Computational and Graphical Statistics (JCGS).

"I was honored merely to be selected by my professional peers for the short list of such a prestigious position," Levine said. "I am very much looking forward to taking the reins and leading the journal forward into the next decade."

Wider implications

While Levine is honored, the appointment has wider implications for SDSU.

"This position really speaks to the respect given to both the College of Sciences and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics by the statistics research community," Levine said.

Roles and responsibilities

Levine's editorial service will begin July 1, and take him through 2013. He is also the founding co-director of the computational statistics joint-doctoral program concentration between SDSU and Claremont Graduate University.

As editor, Levine will be responsible for all aspects of the journal management and publication, including:

  • Scientific review of submitted papers
  • Final decisions on manuscripts
  • Print layout of each issue
  • Journal communications with sponsors and the computational statistics community
  • Organization of JCGS-invited sessions at two major annual statistical conferences: the Joint Statistical Meetings and the Interface Symposia

About the journal

JCGS is the premier journal in Levine's research field, statistical computing, and is an official journal of the American Statistical Association, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and the Interface Foundation of North America.
