2011 Jewish Holidays for Faculty and Staff
This year, Rosh Hashanah begins on Sept. 28, while Yom Kippur starts Oct. 7.
The Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah begins at sunset on the evening of Wednesday, Sept.28, through nightfall, Friday, Sept. 30, 2011. Yom Kippur begins at sunset on the evening of Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, through nightfall, Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011.
The faculty and administration at SDSU have traditionally worked with Jewish colleagues to accommodate their wish to observe these holidays.
Faculty members may, with the approval of their department chair, make arrangements to exchange teaching duties to accommodate Jewish colleagues. Staff members may use their personal holiday, vacation or CTO accruals with appropriate notice to their supervisor.
Please note the university policy on student absence from classes for religious observances, which can be found in the policy file (opens PDF) on the University Senate’s web page. After accessing the link to the policy file, search for “religious observances.”
